In the month of May, we will be exploring life cycles. The students will learn about different life cycles. We will start with the life cycle of a plant. The students will explore and observe different types of seeds. We will predict what plants will grow from each seed. The students will plant the seeds, they will learn what plants need to grow and how to take care of the plants. We will look at the different parts of a plant and begin to understand what purpose each part plays in the plants growth. A new friend has joined our classroom, his name is Marco. He is small and green and swims in a tank. His tank is really cool with sand, shells and a plastic tree. It also has a tube attached to another tank for him to swim through, but he is not a fish. He will change and grow. As we watch this happen we will learn a grown up word called metamorphosis. Can you guess what it is? Next we we will have some more friends join us. This time we will watch as it changes and grows into a beautiful butterfly.
In writing we will learn the letter I for insect, A for apple and U for under. We will continue to emphasis adding details into our pictures and books. We have begun to write words by using the word wall and sounding out words. Some of us are even writing simple sentences like I like.... Please encourage your children to listen for the different sounds they hear as they say words out loud. Encourage them to write letters and words to represent their thoughts and pictures.
In math we are continuing to tell addition and subtraction stories. The children use manipulative to act out adding and taking away stories. They have begun to draw their addition and subtraction stories and write number sentences.
